lol, half of this conference was painful. Sony are in a really terrible position with the Vita, to the point where they're pretty much pinning their hopes on AC III: Liberation (& the bundle) feeding off the inevitable huge AC III hype, Call of Duty Vita, Persona 4 The Golden & Soul Sacrifice. Maybe it'll come off, but if it doesn't, then it might be a wrap. That'd be a shame since it's such an amazing piece of tech, but everything about it was handled horribly.

On the positive side though, Beyond: Two Souls (starring Ellen Page), Assassin's Creed III and THE LAST OF US. Epic.

^ That happened to my PS3 this weekend. Do any of you know of a way to save its life?

If it's dead, do you know a way to save my data?

I'd be gutted if I'd have to buy a new PS3, especially because this one allowed me to play PS2 games.

Derek

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I think that is something to do with it overheating, you should be able to get it fixed without any data loss.

I thought it was the "yellow light of death" that meant the death of your PS3?

Yeah it's the YLOD. Apparently it can be fixed if I take it apart completely, then reheat the GPU with a heater and apply some kind of lubricant. Seems a bit complicated, even on Youtube. Think I'll see if I can find some professional to do it for me.

I could live with buying a new PS3, but I'd hate if I lost all my data. I'm still not sure if all that is stored on the hard drive or the CPU or whatever

Your data is retained in a SATA 2.5 inch hard drive which is easily accessible by taking off the flap on the bottom of the PS3 (if stood vertically) and removing the blue screw. All of your trophies etc is stored online whereas your save game data, install files and personal files are on the harddrive. So unless your hard drive is corrupt, it's pretty much impossible to lose anything PS3 wise. To Retain data, format an external harddrive to FAT32 and goto settings and back up which could be done with new PS3 or a friends PS3, which can then be later restored on a new disc, which can be found in the same settings option.

No data is ever stored on a CPU (Central Processing Unit). Information as game saves would always be held on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive).
